A local chef-owned Italian eatery is expanding. Situated at 34 Church St in Winchester, A Tavola is taking over the next-door space at 36 Church St, formerly home to Freya Surabian Design.

The expanded establishment will feature a 10-seat bar with high-top cocktail tables, additional dining room tables, and a specially designed “sexy window table” built into the opening of the space.

Chef and owner Joseph Carli is excited to integrate his curated beverage program, a passion project he developed after obtaining a full liquor license post-pandemic.

Since acquiring A Tavola in 2020, Carli has dreamed of expanding his small neighborhood eatery. But it’s not just his own dream he’s fulfilling. Winchester locals have long desired a conveniently located wine and cocktail bar. So when the adjacent space became available, Carli saw it as the perfect opportunity to realize both his own vision and meet a larger community need.

A Tavola’s menu features a variety of upscale Italian fare, including rich dishes like Chicken al Mattone, Gnocchi Scampi, and Duck Ragu. The full menu will be available at the new bar, complemented by exclusive bar-only specials.

Following recent approval from the town of Winchester, construction is expected to conclude in the coming weeks. Carli hopes to maintain operations throughout the expansion, but acknowledges the possibility of a temporary closure during the final stages of construction.
