An Italian restaurant in Billerica has temporarily closed its doors following a two-alarm electrical fire.

Employees at Mangia Mangia Italian Kitchen, located at 430 Boston Rd, smelled smoke and saw sparks around 5 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024, according to a WHDH report.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene. Fortunately, no other injuries occurred, and no other buildings were affected. The restaurant, however, suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

In a Facebook post announcing the news, Mangia Mangia owners Bob Mallock and Larry Colleran stated:

We have already already begun the cleanup process, but it will be a while before the rebuilding can begin. We will keep everybody posted and as always we thank you for your continued support and we will post as often as we can to keep everybody updated.

Mangia Mangia opened in February of 2006 and is known for its casual Italian dishes, including shrimp scampi, pizza, and baked lasagna.

What Now Boston has reached out to the owners to find ways the community can help support the restaurant. Stay tuned for updates.
