It looks like one salad-centric restaurant chain will soon replace another in the Fenway.
New York City-based Just Salad is taking over the former site of Sweetgreen at 132 Brookline Avenue, according to a post shared in the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group that shows a “coming soon” sign posted on the door.
While it’s unclear exactly when Sweetgreen closed the Fenway location, @onlyinbos reported the chain’s departure last week on Instagram, amid a broader wave of Sweetgreen closures as the company works to adjust its strategy in response to slow sales and rising costs.
Founded by Colgate University graduate Nick Kenner in 2006, Just Salad has built its brand around customizable, chef-designed meals and a strong focus on sustainability. The menu includes salads, soups, warm bowls, wraps, toasts, smoothies, and house-made dressings, along with vegan, gluten-free, keto, and paleo options for diners with specific dietary preferences.
One of the chain’s signature initiatives is its reusable bowl program, where customers can purchase a branded reusable bowl, bring it back on future visits, and receive a free topping as an incentive to reduce single-use plastic waste. Just Salad also highlights sustainability through carbon-labeled menu items and “Climatarian” meal choices.
The Fenway restaurant will be the latest Massachusetts addition for the growing chain, which now boasts more than 100 locations across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and Massachusetts.
When it debuts, the eatery will join seven existing Just Salad locations in the area, including outposts in Boston’s Financial District, Fort Point, Cambridge Crossing, Burlington, Needham Heights, Dedham, and Chestnut Hill, the latter of which recently opened.
An official opening date has not yet been announced. What Now Boston has reached out to the Just Salad team for additional details and will update this story as more information becomes available.
