A Wakefield café known for creating meaningful employment opportunities for individuals with differing abilities is getting a second chance.

After closing in September, INspire Café is preparing to reopen at 411 Main Street, this time with new operational partners helping bring the community favorite back to life. Non-profit organization Friends of INspire Café (FOIC) announced the news on social media yesterday, sharing that the organization has partnered with Gina and Ed Goodwin, owners of Methuen-based School Street Foods, to lead the café’s next chapter.

Launched in early 2025, INspire Café was founded with a mission to create meaningful employment, training, and mentorship opportunities for individuals with differing abilities. Following its closure, community members, volunteers, partners, and supporters rallied to keep that mission alive, ultimately helping pave the way for the café’s return through its new partnership.

The comeback follows National Disability Employment Awareness Month and National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, reinforcing the brand’s ongoing commitment to inclusive employment and workforce development.

“Our partnership with Gina and Ed ensures that INspire Café is reopening with strength, expertise, and heart,” said Janis Mamayek, Board Chair of Friends of INspire Café. “Their commitment to community and their passion for food service make them ideal partners in this next chapter.”

Mamayek told What Now Boston that the café plans to bring back customer favorites, including cookie butter lattes and breakfast sandwiches, while also introducing new specials from Gina.

FOIC has also welcomed Impact Consulting founder Paul Karrlsson-Willis, who has been volunteering his time as Executive Director to help guide the transition. The organization additionally recognized Attorney Stephen Honig of Boston-based Duane Morris LLP for providing pro bono legal support.

“INspire Café is rising stronger than ever,” said Marie Rej, Vice Chair of Friends of INspire Café. “This reopening represents hope, opportunity, and the power of a community committed to inclusion.”

Behind the scenes, the team has been busy preparing for the reopening, with barista applications already submitted and training sessions and interviews being scheduled. FOIC has also been organizing volunteers, known as INspire Good Ambassadors, to help support the café’s operations. The organization recently shared that it has secured critical vendors and finalized key legal agreements, with its license before the Wakefield Town Council still among the final steps toward reopening.

A public reopening celebration is in the works, with details expected to be shared in the coming weeks. Community members can support the café’s continued mission by contributing to its Phoenix Rising Campaign, which funds inclusive workforce training and mentorship programs.
