A beloved group of local bakeries will soon expand with its tenth location.

According to an X post by Nik DeCosta-Klipa of WBUR (via Boston Restaurant Talk), Flour Bakery + Cafe is set to take over the former Earl of Sandwich site at Boston Common, located at 1B Charles St.

Mayor Michelle Wu and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department announced today, December 11, 2024, that the bakery has been selected to manage the Boston Common Concession Pavilion.

“Flour Bakery will be a great fit for this treasured space in our country’s oldest public park, the Boston Common,” said Mayor Wu in a press release. “As we continue investing in a vibrant Downtown, we’re thrilled to see local businesses creating new opportunities at the forefront. I look forward to enjoying Flour on the Common.”

Flour was founded in 2000 by Joanne Chang, a 2016 James Beard Foundation Award winner for Outstanding Baker. The bakery’s mission is to make “the world a sweeter place through warm smiles, gooey sticky buns, and irresistible BLTs.”

Today, Flour operates locations in the South End, Beacon Hill/West End, Seaport District, Fort Point, the Back Bay (two locations), and three spots in Cambridge: Harvard Square, Central Square, and Cambridgeport.

Renovations at the Charles St site are slated to begin this winter, with Flour on the Common tentatively scheduled to open in the spring of 2025.
