Although an official opening date has yet to be announced, details are slowly emerging about this tavern-style destination, which has been listed as being set to offer tapa-fusion menu options. According to a recent tweet from Eat DC, the license includes details of sidewalk seating, live dancing and entertainment accommodations, and carry-out options, to name a few.
Derived from the Spanish verb “tapar,” meaning “to cover,” tapas are believed to initially be referred to as a slice of bread or a small plate used to cover a glass of wine. Over time, the concept evolved, and various ingredients were added to the bread or plate, resulting in the birth of the tapa as we know it today. The tapa is now known as a small dish or appetizer that has become synonymous with Spanish cuisine and socializing. This menu option can be served either hot or cold, and their versatility allows them to be combined to create a complete and satisfying meal. Traditional tapas include mixed olives, fried baby squid, meatballs, and chorizo.
