A military veteran is preparing to serve his community in a whole new way, this time through fresh, delicious donuts. Retiring Army officer Matthew Yiengst will be opening a Vienna chapter of the popular Duck Donuts chain later this year, reports local media outlet FFX Now.

The franchise will be occupying a storefront located at 256 Maple Street East, which formerly housed a T-Mobile. Matthew Yiengst spoke to What Now DC about bringing Duck Donuts to the area. “Our family first came across Duck Donuts in Springfield, Virginia.” he explains. “Our own customer experience and superior donut quality led us to explore the opportunity to open a store.”

Yiengst explains that the community atmosphere of Vienna makes it an ideal choice for his Duck Donuts. “I found Vienna to be a small town similar to where I grew up in New Oxford, Pennsylvania, where folks enjoy satisfying conversations over delicious food. The location maximizes the customer experience with multiple storefront windows that allow passersby to see the Duck Donuts-Vienna team bringing smiles to faces of all ages.”

Yiengst is confident that Duck Donuts will make an immediate splash in Vienna. “Our donuts sell themselves. Duck Donuts provides a warm, made-to-order donut for each customer.  The vanilla cake donut is topped with icing, a topping, and then drizzle. Duck Donuts also has specialty coffees, sandwiches and my daughter and youngest son’s favorite – milkshakes.”

Duck Donuts hopes to open its doors in time to help residents beat the summer heat. “ We are currently awaiting permitting and hope to start construction soon. We do not have an official grand opening date, but pending no delays, we anticipate summer 2024.” Yiengst states.

While Yiengst and his family are eager to serve fresh delicious donuts, they are hoping for the business to truly become part of the community. “While there is something at Duck Donuts for everyone, my wife and I want each customer to experience exceptional service.” he explains, adding “We look forward to community engagement opportunities in Vienna with local schools, sports teams, and organizations.”
