A double scoop of deliciousness is rolling into Wayne County’s northern enclave.

Business owners intend to open a carry-out ice cream parlor called Mr. Cone at 33425 Ford Road in Garden City, according to site plans recently approved by the city.

State business filings show Dearborn restaurant operator Ahmad Kabbout registered the name at the Ford Road address through a Canton-based limited-liability company earlier this year.

Kabbout and his brother owned Cedars Pastry, a family-run confectionery in Brooklyn, New York, according to media reports from The Village Voice.

The New York City weekly said the duo’s parents were Lebanese bakers who immigrated to the U.S. and established roots in Dearborn before moving to the Big Apple, where they opened the pastry shop/ice cream parlor in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge neighborhood.

The authentic Arabic treats at Cedars Pastry were also featured in the New York Times before the restaurant shut its doors.

Business filings show Kabbout was also the driving force behind Yassine’s Royal Pastries in Dearborn.

The proposed ice cream parlor in Garden City will occupy 900 square feet along a busy commercial corridor. It will be situated in a former bicycle repair shop next door to the One Stop liquor store near the intersection of Ford and Farmington roads.

Garden City officials approved the site plans and a special zoning use in March. Kabbout and his team are still going through the licensing and reconstruction phase but he tentatively expected a mid-June opening.

“We’re hoping for the best,” he told What Now Detroit. “We’re going to be serving the area of Garden City premium soft-serve ice cream along with premium hard-stack ice cream.”
