More vendors are on their way to High Street Kitchens, a facility owned by California based Maker Kitchens, located at 2864 N High St, according to a recent permit filed with the city of Columbus. The permit filing details work to be performed for alterations on three individual kitchens. Maker Kitchens has locations in eight cities in the U.S. and “offers turnkey ready” commercial kitchens to food-based businesses, according to information on its website.
Those turnkey ready kitchens offer dishwashing and prep sinks, gas and electricity, range hoods and fire suppression devices, along with walk in coolers and prep space. High Street Kitchens has 21 kitchens that provide commercial kitchen needs for Columbus restaurants, caterers, bakeries and more that need a location to cook and prep their products, but their business model doesn’t need a brick and mortar location.
What Now Columbus confirmed through email with Bennett Goldberg, partner with Maker Kitchens, that there are currently seven restaurants operating out of the facility, with three more expected to open within the next week, and several more opening later this fall. A few of those kitchens that are in operation belong to Layered Brew Coffee, Smitty’s BBQ & Catering and Jean Claude Ba, better known as Chef Hiro, a Columbus chef who combines his passion for anime and jerk dishes.
“High St. Kitchens is made up of 16 restaurants, a bakery, a freeze dried candy company, a meal prep company and a Cookie R&D operator,” Goldberg said. “We have one available kitchen remaining vacant, but it does not have a hood or gas, so we are looking for an operator such as a juicer, ice cream maker or any other type of producer that does not require an oven or hood.”
