A good cup of coffee can elevate the drinker’s mood. A great cup of coffee can elevate the entire community. Luckily for McKinney, a shop focused on serving the latter is planning a new cafe in the area. Black Rock Coffee has filed paperwork for a fresh Collin County location.

The civically-minded chain will be remodeling the space at 4001 West University Drive that housed Salad and Go until July of 2024. The tastes and scents of socially-conscious coffee are still a few months away for McKinney java fanatics; paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows that work is supposed to start on the project on April 23. Construction should wrap by January 15 of next year, suggesting Black Rock may open its new location in early 2026.

The completed cafe will provide Black Rock with an 837 square foot space to brew and serve its signature cups of joe.

The chain’s objective is to build bridges in its local neighborhood through the power of a great cup of coffee. The website explains: “As part of local communities, each Black Rock Coffee Bar team finds ways to serve their neighborhoods. And by doing so we help raise the bar for relationship and compassion.”

Black Rock’s menu features a wide range of hot and cold coffee drinks, many customizable thanks to an impressive selection of flavored syrups and  sauces. Hungry guests are able to select a breakfast treat crafted by local bakers and chefs.
