Hell’s Kitchen burger spot Fat Boys Burgers is heading to the East Village, with plans to open in a 1,000-square-foot space at 231 First Ave. later this spring. This will be the first expansion for the brand, which opened a few years ago.
Brothers Alla and Naz Saleh and their brother-in-law Ahmed Mohsen are behind the concept. Alla told What Now New York that East Village appealed to them because they are looking to place locations strategically throughout New York.
“We’ve been looking to expand out,” Alla said. “There are a lot of students and a big college scene down there. There’s a good night crowd. I think we can benefit the area with what we provide.”
The spot will have its own unique design spin compared to the Hell’s Kitchen location, which features a devil theme. The East Village spot will have a punk rock aesthetic and a retro, cool atmosphere. The space will also have more seating than the Hell’s Kitchen location, which was a key change that the team was looking for.
The menu, which features items like the Skinny Boy Burger, the Pastrami Burger and the Chopped Chicken Sandwich, will remain the same at the East Village location. However, Alla said they hope to expand their menu to include seasonal items in the near future.
There are also vegan and vegetarian menu options.
“We just want to represent the neighborhood and supply good, inexpensive, quality food,” Alla said. “We try to cater to the neighborhood and to customers.”
This expansion will not be the last for Fat Boys Burgers. Alla said they are looking to spread out across the neighborhoods in New York City and possibly open up locations in New Jersey, as well.
“We basically want to be everywhere,” Alla said.
