Owner Troy MacLarty has plans to open a new Italian restaurant in place of his recently closed Bollywood Theater.

The Indian restaurant, at 3010 SE Division Street, has closed as of two weeks ago. In place of this, MacLarty wants to put in a new restaurant called Maglia Rosa, as reported by Eater Portland. There is no menu that has been released.

MacLarty opened Bollywood Theater in 2012. Since then, he has been executive chef, preparing authentic Indian food for both the SE Division Street and his 2039 NE Alberta Street locations. He has been in Portland for more than 20 years and previously worked as chef at Lovely Hula Hands on N Mississippi Avenue.

The 28,524-square-foot space was Bollywood Theater’s flagship location. It has an outdoor patio, and there is speculation this will be used for the new Italian restaurant. MacLarty told The Oregonian he is hoping to open the new location this summer.

According to their website, the Alberta location is still open and is now serving lunch.

What Now Portland has reached out to the owner, and this article may be updated.
