The movie theater at Gresham Cinema & Wunderland has stopped showing films, and the family entertainment center is shifting its focus to games, go-karts and laser tag. The theater’s last day of movies was Sept. 7. The business announced the change in a Facebook post.
The Gresham location at 140 NW Burnside Road will stay open. Electric Castles Wunderland, the company behind the site, says the arcade, go-karts, laser tag and all games are unaffected. It also announced new party rooms coming soon and a 5,000-square-foot addition planned for next year. The addition will feature what the company calls a “massive, exciting new attraction.” The company has promised more details later.
The movie theater was a small, single-screen operation. It opened in December 2010 inside the Gresham Square shopping center, in a space that had been a Halloween superstore. It had about 115 seats and showed digital films alongside the Wunderland arcade.
The business has long been known as more than a movie house. The Gresham site lists a game room, laser tag, Hologate virtual reality and go-karts among its attractions, and has offered discounted admission on weekdays. The company also operates arcades at other Portland-area theaters, including the Avalon Theatre in Southeast Portland.
The change comes as the business is putting money into the site. The Kidder Mathews 3Q 2026 Portland retail report lists a lease by Gresham Cinema & Wunderland of 16,707 square feet at Gresham Square in August, the largest lease of the quarter. It was not clear from the report whether the lease relates to the planned expansion. The report puts the Portland retail market’s vacancy at 4.6%, with asking rents averaging $1.96 per square foot.
Gresham, in Multnomah County just east of Portland, is one of the area’s largest suburbs, and Gresham Square sits along the Burnside corridor near the city’s downtown.
