It looks like a new Caribbean restaurant is headed to the northwest suburbs of Boston.

Dante and Phaimyr Maxi—the husband-and-wife duo behind Grêp Kafé & Sweets Bakery—are expanding their culinary footprint in Medford with Caribbean Hut, a takeout spot opening next door to the bakery at 466B Salem St, in the former Flex Appeal space.

The news first broke in the Friends of Boston’s Hidden Restaurants Facebook group, where a photo shows a “coming soon” banner outside the building. While the Maxis did not respond to What Now Boston‘s requests for comment, signage confirms that the new restaurant will focus on “authentic Haitian and Caribbean cuisine.”

Menu details are under wraps for now, but patrons can expect vibrant, comforting options like jerk chicken, goat curry, griot (crispy marinated pork), and diri ak djon djon—an earthy black mushroom rice.

Grêp Kafé & Sweets Bakery opened in 2023 and quickly garnered attention with its freshly baked Haitian patés (flaky, savory pastry squares), assorted sweets, and custom cakes baked by Phaimyr, who got her start as a home baker.

An opening date for Caribbean Hut has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for more details as the eatery makes its mark on Medford.
