A local mobile barbecue company is cooking up a brick-and-mortar location in Atlanta.

BBQ 56 is planned for 1563 Ralph David Abernathy Bouelvard SW, according to a liquor license application with the City of Atlanta.

BBQ 56 serves smoked meats (like wings, turkey legs, pulled pork, sausage, and their signature smoked spare ribs) plus sides like loaded fries, potato salad, baked beans and collard greens. BBQ 56 has operated as a pop-up and offers catering services.

“Since 1956, BBQ 56 has been serving the greater Atlanta area delicious, home cooked meals directly from our kitchen to yours,” according to the company website. “Bringing our unique sensibility, style, and taste to each affair, our founder, along with one of the most dynamic teams in the city, quickly gained acclaim for highlighting the natural tastes of fresh food.”

Operating hours for the restaurant would be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to the liquor license application. The 3,000-square-foot space would have seating for 49 patrons.

Ownership for BBQ 56 could not immediately be reached for more information about the restaurant. But according to a social media post, BBQ 56 is expected to open in summer 2025. A colorful BBQ 56 mural was recently added to the side of the building.
