It’s a big year for Ernie’s Acai. The South Florida brand has followed “the old way of working: word of mouth, great business, great product,” launching its fourth location in Sunset Harbor with plans to open a Boca Raton outpost this fall.
This much we already knew. But, as it turns out, Ernie’s is going even bigger than we thought. Yet another new location is in the works in Parkland/Coral Springs, opening at 5910 Coral Ridge Road, in the Sawgrass Center.
“In Parkland, we’re opening in the middle of August just in time for school,” co-owner Andrew Platt told What Now on Thursday. “Boca is going to open in September.”
That means that, by September, the brand will have doubled its footprint in less than a year. That’s a huge undertaking, and Platt says that, expansion-wise, that’s all for now. But Ernie’s won’t be resting on its laurels: the brand will be keeping busy developing its product.
For one thing, Ernie’s has partnered with a Japanese protein powder brand to create new protein-focused bowls. Meanwhile, as Ernie’s acai is served using a soft-serve ice cream machine, Platt says the brand is experimenting with new Twist varieties, blending acai with ingredients like mango or Japanese purple sweet potato.
What else will the future bring for the brand?
“We’re really going to be focusing on limited-time-only bowls, where we’re rolling out specific bowls for specific locations,” Platt said.
In other words, wherever you turn up for Ernie’s acai, there will always be something fresh and new.
