The growing restaurant hospitality group is again eying expansion on the north side of the city.
Exodo Hospitality recently submitted a liquor license application for a restaurant called Akiro at 546 N Wells Street. This new restaurant will be built close to their current Matilda location in River North. The team is aiming for a September opening.
Akiro is currently a “Nikkei hand roll bar” based in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain. One of the chefs will be Luis Arevalo-Navarro, who specializes in this cuisine. When speaking to Arevalo-Navarro over text, he told What Now Chicago the timeline for opening right now is Sept. 15-20.
Nikkei hand rolls are described as a mixture of Japanese and Peruvian dishes. Typically, the rolls contain fish, rice and seawood, while the Peruvian flavors include spicy sauces and salsa. The official menu for this Akiro location has not been released.
Matilda opened in June at 535 N Wells Street. It is a Mexican-Peruvian concept that has a menu based on Baja, California dishes. Akiro is set to go across the street from this restaurant, near Al’s #1 Italian Beef sandwich shop.
Exodo has not made a public announcement as of yet, but a press release will be coming soon. It is expected to be heavily inspired by the current Spanish restaurants. For more information, visit their website exodohospitality.com.
