Barry Bagels Readies for DFW Debut

The brand is planning to open 30 storefronts across the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

New York has long been considered the bagel capitol of the United States. However a Midwest bakery and deli is preparing to show the DFW that it can craft as beautiful a carb as the Empire State. Barry Bagels has been serving up delicious fare for 50 years, but to date only Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky diners have been able to sink their teeth into one of the brand’s signature bagels. However, Barry Bagels is getting ready to pursue a new frontier with a 30 store Texas expansion, reports QSR.

There is, arguably, no better market for an ambitious brand to make its Lone Star State debut in than the DFW, so it is no surprise that Barry is targeting the Dallas -Fort Worth region. No addresses are yet available for the bumper crop of storefronts, however Michael Wainz-the franchisee spearheading the expansion-is hoping to open the first one or two delis relatively soon.

Wainz is just the man to bring Barry to Dallas, being familiar with both the city and the bagels. Wainz previously worked at Barry and knows the area well, allowing him to see the opportunities implicit in the neighborhood. He states: “I lived in downtown Dallas for about seven years, and one thing I always noticed was the lack of a great neighborhood bagel shop—a place to grab something fresh each day. When I saw the lines outside a shop near SMU, it confirmed what I had been thinking all along. There’s a real demand here, and I saw an opportunity to offer something that could become part of people’s everyday routines.”

Barry opened its first location in 1972. The chain has earned acclaim, of course, through its bagels. The website explains: “We don’t just bake our bagels fresh every morning. We bake them fresh all day long. So whatever time you stop by, you can expect the freshest bagel in town.”

Future Dallas Barry customers can look forward to enjoying a range of sandwiches, salads, soups, and sides.
