Chef Masaaki Uchino has become a fixture of the DC dining scene. His flawlessly prepared sushi and omakase have been delighting diners for over 16 years, so locals will certainly be thrilled to hear he is deepening his presence in the area. Soga Genji Hospitality has filed paperwork for a liquor license for a new location of Kiyomi by Masaaki “Uchi” Uchino, and it’s filling the void left by a beloved poke restaurant.
Forms submitted to the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration shows that Kiyomi is planning to set up shop at 1895 L Street, N.W. The restaurant will be breathing new life into the spot which has sat vacant since Poki DC closed there earlier this year.
According to the filed paperwork, Kiyomi will be able to seat up to 20 customers indoors and will have sidewalk seating for another 15 guests. The hours of operation mentioned on the submitted form are 11 am to 12 am, Sunday through Saturday.
While it is not yet clear whether or not the new Kiyomi location will be an exact twin to the existing 1850 K Street NW location, the restaurant is certain to inspire excitement among DC diners. Chef Uchino is widely considered among the best in his business, having earned a coveted Michelin Star. His innovative approach to cuisine will surely make Kiyomi a dining experience not to be missed.
