Recall Issued by Wholesale Produce Supply
On September 29, Wholesale Produce Supply, LLC, issued a recall for certain products. The recall covers fresh-cut and processed cantaloupe. The products are suspected of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The contaminated cantaloupe products were sold in Nebraska, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. However, there is a possibility that they have been distributed to other states. The products were sold under the ‘Harvest Cuts’ and ‘Fresh and Finest’ brands in grocery stores.
The recall was issued when a routine sampling program conducted by the company revealed that the products may contain bacteria. The company has suspended the production and distribution of the affected lots. It is now investigating the root cause of this contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that poses a significant risk to children, the frail or elderly, and pregnant women. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, headaches, or nausea, but the infection can be life-threatening for vulnerable populations. It can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
While no illnesses have been reported yet, the FDA has issued a warning to consumers. It is advised to discard the product or return it for a refund.
