Roseland Community Hospital Association has officially filed for bankruptcy protection. The Chicago, Illinois-based healthcare provider is currently doing business as The New Roseland Community Hospital. The filing comes amid reported financial challenges, including delayed state payments, Medicaid reimbursements, and rising operating costs.

Note: Chapter 11 allows businesses to reorganize their debts while continuing operations under court supervision. A Chapter 11 filing does not necessarily mean that a business is closing. For additional information, readers are encouraged to contact the business directly.

Overview of the Filing

Roseland Community Hospital Association submitted a Chapter 11 petition on November 4. The proceedings are taking place in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Timothy Egan, listed as the president and CEO, signed the petition before it was filed.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the filing aims to address debt threatening operations without disrupting patient care. The hospital cited a recent $650,000 proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit over a 2024 patient data breach. The settlement received preliminary court approval on August 18, 2026, as per the HIPAA Journal. However, final approval is still pending, with a hearing scheduled for January 6, 2027.

The hospital also cited inadequate funding for safety-net hospitals and anticipated Medicaid funding reductions under H.R. 1, the Chicago Tribune reported.

About the Company

Roseland Community Hospital Association has been serving residents of Chicago’s Far South since 1924. Services include emergency care, surgery, diagnostic imaging, dental care, pharmacy services, and behavioral health treatment.

In October 2026, Roseland shared suspension plans for its labor and delivery unit, citing low birth volumes and the high cost of maintaining the service, as per Crain’s Chicago Business.

Roseland had previously received $5 million through a state program supporting obstetrics services at community hospitals. However, as birth volumes declined and more hospitals entered the funding pool, its grant allocation fell to $500,000. The hospital also faced the expense tied to anesthesia, neonatology, and neurology services.

As the proceedings progress, Roseland Community Hospital Association’s financial footing could be reshaped.
