Memphis foodies hungry for something new can look forward to slaking their appetite before the year is out. Maru Handroll Bar is moving through the permitting process-and promises to be “901’s first hand roll bar”.

Locals will be able to stop in for a new sushi experience at 4615 Poplar Avenue. According to the commercial alteration permit filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development, Maru Handroll Bar will occupy a 709 square foot space with room for up to 25 customers. It is unclear precisely when the restaurant will be ready to serve customers-What Now Memphis has reached out to leadership for further information-however it has been steadily working its way through the permitting process, receiving its sign permit in September. The restaurant’s Instagram page states that it will be opening in late 2025, so Memphis sushi enthusiasts won’t have to wait too much longer to sink their teeth into the concept’s cuisine.

Maru promises to be a truly unmissable dining experience. An official Instagram post explains what’s in store-and how Maru will differentiate itself from other, existing concepts, saying: “we will be sourcing only the finest ingredients to craft the perfect handrolls for you.” The social media page also teases the promise of uni, chutoro, and fatty tuna as star ingredients.

What Now Memphis will update readers as more information becomes available; locals can also follow Maru’s Instagram to receive all the breaking news.
