HWARO, named after the traditional Korean brazier, brings the warmth and communal spirit of Korean dining to Manhattan’s Theater District. The new restaurant is set to open within the modern American steakhouse, Gui, on October 14.

HWARO Set to Open with Culinary Ambition

Michelin-starred chef Sungchul Shim is bringing a 13-course tasting menu to HWARO, featuring a 22-seat circular chef’s counter that puts guests close to the cooking process.

The design features natural wood tones, curated displays, and handcrafted details that highlight Korean artistry and tradition.

At the center of the counter is Chef Shim’s custom Molenti grill suite, built in collaboration with the French cookware brand Molenti, featuring precision burners, a plancha, charbroiler, and oven. Each balances function and finesse while keeping the cooking process visible to diners.

Other design aspects of the restaurant include a marble countertop with a brushed gold metal base, and gray upholstered bar stools with wooden legs. The restaurant features brass accents and vertical slatted wood walls to add more character to the space.

HWARO Showcases Korean Craft in 13 Courses

Priced at $295 per person, HWARO offers an elaborate 13-course menu. The restaurant celebrates Korean cuisine by including charcoal grilling and fermentation in the process. It also brings in flavors from across East Asia.

The menu draws inspiration from the elements of land, sea, and fire, blending traditional Korean techniques with modern flavors. The beverage program of HWARO is led by Bar Manager Gelo Honrade. It mirrors the kitchen’s innovation and seasonality.

Cocktails are crafted with Asian ingredients to complement the tasting menu. The expansive wine list is thoughtfully created by the beverage program team.

Reservations and Timings

Located at 776 8th Avenue, 2nd Floor, in New York City, HWARO will be open Tuesday through Saturday. HWARO offers seatings at 5:30 PM, 6:00 PM, 8:30 PM, and 9:00 PM.

Reservations are required and can be made up to 30 days in advance through Tock.

HWARO combines Korean tradition with a hands-on, multi-course tasting menu in a 22-seat chef’s counter setting.
