An iconic sub shop in Everett is heading north.
DiBlasi’s Subs is planning to open its second location in the former Green Tomato space at 42 High St in Reading, according to Boston Restaurant Talk. In addition to occupying The Green Tomato storefront, the restaurant will also take over the former Nick’s Dry Cleaners space.
While owner Greg Maganzini confirmed the news with What Now Boston, he noted that the details are still coming together and he’ll have more information soon. “[It will be] more than just a sub shop,” he said. “A lot is still being designed, like the menu. We’re still figuring that out, trying to narrow that down.”
While specifics are still being finalized, the Reading Recap reports that the new location will offer a sit-down dining experience, along with warm family meals and a lineup of “fun drinks” in a modern, welcoming space.
Founded in 1952 by Philip DiBlasi, the eatery was passed down to his son, Chuck, before being sold to Chef Maganzini in 2005. Today, DiBlasi’s is celebrated for its Italian-inspired comfort classics, including chicken and veal cutlets, meatballs, eggplant, and its signature shaved-steak subs.
DiBlasi’s Subs is on track to debut in Reading in the spring of 2026. What Now Boston will update this page as more information becomes available.
