Frisco, get ready to take a bite out of the Windy City. Portillo’s-one of Chicago’s hottest exports-is bringing its signature dogs and burgers to a new DFW location next year and construction is well underway on the chain’s next area storefront.
DFW diners will be able to stop in for a little taste of Chicago in a newly constructed building at the northwest corner of FM 423 and Gordon Heights Lane. According to leasing documents, the building will span 6,250 square feet. An opening date isn’t presently available for Portillo’s Frisco storefront, however work is projected to wrap by early January of next year. This suggests local diners should be able to taste for themselves what makes the chain so successful in the relatively near future.
Though Portillo’s calls Chicago home, the brand is no stranger to the DFW-or its foodies. The restaurant currently has five locations in the area. Visitors can stop into storefronts in Grand Prairie, Grapevine, The Colony, Arlington, and Mansfield to enjoy Portillo’s fare. Further locations are currently in development in North Dallas and at the DFW Airport.
Portillo’s served its first customers in 1963 in Villa Park, Illinois. While many most strongly associate Chicago dining with its distinctive hot dog (and Portillo’s knows its way around that particular dish), many fans of the chain are equally fond of its Italian beef sandwiches-and it’s not hard to see why. The website describes the popular dish, saying: “Our Italian beef is slow-roasted for four hours, thinly sliced, and served on freshly baked French bread. Then, it’s dipped in hot gravy made with our homemade blend of seasonings that we’ve been perfecting for 50 years.” Guests can also look forward to burgers, chicken sandwiches, pastas, fries, and a variety of shakes to satisfy a sweet tooth.
