The owner of a Phoenix coffee truck is opening her first brick and mortar cafe.
Devon McConville, the owner of First Place Coffee Truck, will open Matilda’s All Day Cafe. The coffee shop and restaurant is named Matilda after the 1970 Chevy P10 truck-turned-mobile coffee shop, which is lovingly referred to as “Matilda”. The shop will open at 822 N. Sixth Avenue in Downtown Phoenix in January 2026, according to the Phoenix New Times.
The former finance executive tells New Times that she traded in her office career for one as a barrista in 2015 because she felt a sense of community in coffee. That effort paid off, and she opened her coffee truck in 2018. The little truck that could grew a loyal following for its delicious coffee and friendly customer service, provided by McConville and her team.
When Matilda’s opens, customers can expect a similar coffee experience to that of First Place, including signature coffee drinks like the Honeycomb, with raw honey, vanilla bean, and cinnamon; the Diablo with chocolate, chile de arbol, vanilla bean, and cinnamon; and the lavender-scented Leo. In addition, Matilda’s will serve sandwiches, pastries, and more.
