Popular taproom Sanitas Brewing Co. has shut down permanently, ending an era for the local craft beer scene in Boulder. The brewery served its final meal and drinks on December 20. In a last farewell message to its followers, the eatery thanked the community and patrons.
Sanitas Brewing Co. Bids Farewell as Brewery Closes Its Doors for Good
Known for its tacos and rotating in-house beers, Sanitas Brewing Co. entertained patrons in the industry for 12 long years. As the taproom celebrated its last day, co-founder Michael Memsic expressed his gratitude in a touching statement that the restaurant shared on its social media post.
“Thank you all for coming out and giving Sanitas a proper send-off at Sanitas’ Last Call. One last good time, among the many over the years, at the Boulder taproom. Smiles, laughter, and many beers (even tattoos!) were had. Music, merch, and memories were made. A few (or more) tears were shed, and hugs were given,” Memsic said.
He expressed his gratitude to all who visited the eatery on its last night and to those who were frequent visitors at the patio over the years. “Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Sanitas last night. And thank you to everyone who visited a patio or enjoyed a brew over the years,” the post concluded.
Industry Challenges Led to Closure
Sanitas Brewing Co. first announced that it would close in November through a social media post. The taproom acknowledged that the decision was difficult. It, however, said that the current state of the craft beer industry had made long-term sustainability challenging.

“It is no secret that the state of the craft beer industry is proving to be difficult to sustain a business in, and Sanitas is facing that reality too,” the post read.
While industry pressures led to its shutdown, Sanitas’ farewell reflected the strong connection it shared with its patrons.
