MIMI Chinese, a Toronto restaurant known for its modern take on regional Chinese cooking, is temporarily closing for renovations and a planned refresh in Toronto at 265 Davenport Rd.

The restaurant announced the pause through a social media post, sharing that its last day of service was January 4, 2026. Operated by Big Hug Hospitality, MIMI Chinese has been in operation for approximately four and a half years and has earned a recommendation in the Toronto edition of the Michelin Guide. While a reopening date has not been announced, the team confirmed plans for a refreshed dining room and a new menu. Customers can expect an updated experience when the restaurant returns.

Since opening, MIMI Chinese has built a strong following for its focus on shared plates inspired by multiple regions of China. The restaurant’s announcement received more than 1,200 likes on Instagram, along with dozens of comments from customers expressing support and excitement for what is next. The response suggests steady interest as the restaurant prepares for its next phase. The closure is described as temporary, with the intention of returning once updates are complete.

Big Hug Hospitality also operates other Toronto restaurants, including Sunnys Chinese and Linny’s. The group has continued to expand its presence in the city with concepts that balance familiar dishes and contemporary dining rooms. MIMI Chinese has also operated a location in Miami, expanding its broader footprint outside Canada. The refresh aligns with the group’s pattern of evolving its restaurants over time.

Before the pause, MIMI Chinese’s menu emphasized shareable dishes and regional variety. Current offerings include Smacked Cucumber Salad, Suan La Fen, Shrimp Toast, Char Siu Ribs, General Tao Chicken, and whole-fish preparations. The menu also featured premium options like filet mignon, ribeye, and Japanese wagyu, alongside fried rice, noodles, and vegetable dishes.

The upcoming changes are expected to build on the restaurant’s original concept while introducing updates to both the space and the food, according to YourCityWithin. This will be an excellent landing space for the next chapter of MIMI Chinese, as customers await details on the reopening.
