An upscale Hockessin destination has closed its doors permanently. The House of William & Merry shared the closure announcement on July 26, 2026. The restaurant was operated by acclaimed chef Bill Hoffman and his wife, Merry Catanuto.

The House of William & Merry Said Goodbye

Chef William Hoffman and Merry Catanuto founded the restaurant. William Hoffman was a James Beard Award semifinalist in the category of Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic in 2022.

The restaurant’s menu featured New American dishes influenced by classic French cuisine. The restaurant prepared all menu items with fresh and locally sourced ingredients. It was situated inside the owners’ 1922 farmhouse and featured an open kitchen design and full-service bar.

The House of William & Merry, located at 1336 Old Lancaster Pike in Hockessin, has bid farewell. According to the July 26 closure announcement, the owners are stepping away from the restaurant and starting a “new chapter.”

In the announcement, the owners said the decision was not related to business challenges. “It has nothing to do with the relentless work and passion given by our wonderful staff. It has to do with the fact that Merry and I need to find a new chapter in our lives,” confirmed the restaurant owners.

The owners have assured the community that they plan to return soon and require some time to think about it.
