Plans for a discount supermarket chain in Somerdale remain in the works.
LIDL will open at 516 N. White Horse Pike, taking over the former Two Z’s Tavern space.
An “available” real estate sign on the property sparked speculation about whether LIDL was still coming to Somerdale, 42 Freeway reported.
However, J.C. BAR Properties shared an Instagram post stating the team is seeking a tenant for the separate commercial space alongside LIDL.
LIDL will occupy the larger portion of the property, while a separate drive-through restaurant will sit farther down Evergreen Ave.
The supermarket chain offers affordable groceries, fresh produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, dairy products and household essentials. LIDL emphasizes quality and value through a curated selection of primarily private-label products, imported European specialties and weekly deals on groceries and nonfood items, including kitchenware, clothing and seasonal home goods.
Founded in Germany in 1973, LIDL has expanded to 31 countries and employs more than 360,000 people worldwide. The company established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, in June 2015 and now operates more than 190 stores along the East Coast.
LIDL has not yet announced an official opening date. However, the outlet reported the project must complete a New Jersey Department of Transportation review before advancing to the final permitting stages.
