South Block, the better-for-you brand known for acai bowls, smoothies, and cold-pressed juice, is officially opening its first concept outside of the DMV at the Bowl at Ballantyne on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Guests can run to South Block for its handcrafted acai bowls and smoothies made with organic fair-trade acai, fresh fruit, and superfood supplements to sustain a healthy lifestyle. It will be the perfect spot for Ballantyne residents and visitors to get a post-workout smoothie or fully customizable acai bowls with friends and family. Beyond feeling awesome, South Block Ballantyne also plans to do good by donating a percentage of its sales to the local nonprofit, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, and the company’s nonprofit, Fruitful Planet.
“When I started South Block in 2011, growing and expansion were always the goals, and hitting this milestone of moving beyond the DMV is huge for the whole team,” states Amir Mostafavi, Founder of South Block in a statement.“We built South Block one block at a time and Charlotte is the perfect home to spread our mission of making people feel awesome one block at a time by spreading good vibes and fresh food,” adding that their better-for-you offerings find a natural home in Ballantyne’s growing community.
South Block plans to grow in North Carolina and has more stores lined up for Charlotte, including Plaza Midwood which is set to open this spring.
The shop interior will feature a mural inspired by the Amazon Rainforest, the source of the antioxidant-rich acai berry. The indoor and outdoor mural is painted by the team’s DC-based muralist, MazPaz, and brings a piece of the original South Block mural designs to Ballantyne.
To commemorate this milestone, South Block will host a grand opening celebration on opening day, offering free Mini Acai Bowls for the first 100 guests, live music, exclusive giveaways, swag, and face painting!
Hours will be 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
