When Pizza Tropical closed inside Wynwood bar, Gramps, the pizza ventenita was mourned, with the bar posting on its Instagram, “please come leave flowers at what was once called the little pizza shack at Gramps”.
The December closing of Pizza Tropical was just the start of things to come, with Gramps, itself, holding its final “last call” on January 4. The closure marked more than the closing of a much-loved pizza shack and bar: for many, it signaled the end of two unique locally-owned Miami establishments.
Now, it seems there’s a mozzarella-flavored lining to this cloud. Pizza Tropical is rising like a phoenix from its ashes.
The Miami New Times reports that the beloved pizza spot will reopen in February 2026 in Miami’s Upper Eastside neighborhood at 7010 Biscayne Boulevard, next door to Karma car wash. Pizza Tropical co-founders Frank Pinello and Adam Gersten are behind the project, along with a third partner.
Pizza Tropical first opened in 2016 as a way to sate the late-night cravings of Gramps’ customers. The window, a collaboration between Brooklyn’s Best Pizza’s Frank Pinello and Gramps’ Adam Gersten, served a no-nonsense menu of slices and pies, garlic knots, and wings. The tiny window became a hit — and then a cherished part of Miami’s culinaryand cultural fabric. In a city that is constantly changing and evolving, it’s good news when a beloved staple returns to the city that loved it.
