A new Japanese-inspired cocktail bar from The h.wood Group and real estate and hospitality entrepreneur Robert Rivani is preparing to open just off Lincoln Road.

Bar Shishi will debut in September at 1691 Michigan Avenue in Miami Beach, tucked inside RIVANI, Rivani’s $125 million redevelopment project.

The intimate third-floor bar takes inspiration from Tokyo’s hidden nightlife, with guests looking for a guardian lion that signals the entrance to the moody hideaway.

The h.wood Group, known for hospitality concepts including Delilah, The Nice Guy, and Bootsy Bellows, partnered with Rivani on the new destination.

Behind the bar, senior bar manager and certified Japanese ice master Kevin Lee will make cocktail preparation part of the experience. Drinks will incorporate techniques including hand-carved diamond ice, Japanese kakigōri-style shaved ice, cobbler shaking, and cocktail throwing. Japanese-inspired bites will accompany the cocktail program.

Music will also play a central role in Bar Shishi. A custom vinyl DJ booth anchors the room, with more than 100 records selected specifically for the bar by Eddie McDonald, also known as Eddie Mac.

The opening adds a nightlife component to RIVANI, located steps from Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

Rather than announcing itself from the street, Bar Shishi is designed as a discovery within the building, with its concealed entrance, intimate setting, and Japanese influences creating a destination inspired by the experience of finding one of Tokyo’s tucked-away bars.
