A beloved sandwich shop at the Market at 7th Street is expanding to a full brick-and-mortar space. Corey Jones is bringing his brand Mad Dash to Truist Plaza this spring after operating for the past three and a half years at the Market at 7th Street. Jones is targeting a mid-March opening in the new space.
“We really wanted to expand our footprint,” Jones told What Now Charlotte. “I wanted to stay in the Uptown area since we’ve been here for three years. We’ve built good foot traffic here and I didn’t want to lose it, but to expand on it.”
The second-generation space provided Jones with a good foundation to begin with, meaning he could minimize construction. They will mainly focus on building out the counter space. Customers can expect an open layout with an open kitchen.
“Being able to find a nice second-generation that wasn’t too expensive in the Uptown area was a gem, so I was glad we were able to find it,” Jones said.
As Mad Dash moves to Truist Plaza, Jones is planning some menu adjustments. Some fan favorites, such as Mad Dash’s loaded fries, will be exiting, and the tacos will likely jump to a weekly special position. However, the sandwich menu will expand and keep existing offerings, such as the Spicy Dasher Chicken Melt and the Blackened Shrimp Po’Boy. Other offerings will include burgers, wraps, seasonal salads and wings.
They will also be adding a breakfast menu featuring breakfast sandwiches, bowls and tacos as well as coffee options. The spot will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and it will be open on Saturdays, when Jones hopes to offer a fast-casual brunch.
Eventually, Jones hopes to expand Mad Dash in the region, exploring partnerships and introducing new concepts to its ecosystem, such as a diner or an upscale restaurant.
“This is really just the beginning for the brand,” Jones said. “We’ll be looking to expand in the Charlotte area and grow into other locations.”
