Gyro City Has Opened in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village

New York City’s dining scene continues to grow with the arrival of Gyro City, a fast-casual Greek restaurant focused on quality and hospitality. Gyro City at 99 MacDougal Street in Manhattan is the first in New York and opened on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Gyro City features a menu that includes thoughtfully sourced proteins, USDA organic produce, and time-honored preparation methods. The space is designed as a casual neighborhood spot for quick meals and shared dining.

“Gyro City is about intention,” said co-founder George Karavias. “We’re not trying to reinvent the gyro; we’re trying to respect it. We use better ingredients, real cooking methods, and a hospitality-first mindset because that’s how food should be made and shared.”

For decades, the three founders worked together in hospitality while sharing a passion for food. Gyro City was founded by three partners, two Greek and one Italian, with deep roots in hospitality. The founders shared a belief that gyros and the people eating them deserved better.

The brand emphasizes traditional preparation while maintaining a fast-casual format. To deliver this, fresh pita bread and other key ingredients are imported directly from Greece. The brand also ensures the same care found in full-service restaurants.

The menu emphasizes clean ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. To celebrate the opening, Gyro City treated its first 100 customers to a complimentary gyro. Now, it is planning to carry this momentum forward with new openings for Astoria and beyond.

The menu at Gyro City brings a fresh take on a classic tradition while raising the bar on ingredients and preparation. Apart from preserving the integrity of the food through imported ingredients, it also brings standout details to the food. This includes the beef tallow used to cook fries, seasoned and juicy meats, and fresh, crisp toppings.

The menu highlights include Greek gyro favorites like beef and lamb gyro pitas, and chicken gyro pitas. It also includes chicken and pork souvlaki pitas, beef and lamb kebab pitas, loukaniko (Greek sausage) pitas, shrimp souvlaki pitas, and vegetarian falafel pitas. Gyro City is open daily for lunch and dinner.
