With five locations in Houston and one already open in Austin, Texas-born restaurant Local Foods is bringing “Flavors So Fresh, You’ll Swear Our Food Is Flirting with You” to downtown Austin this summer. Local Foods’ second Austin location will launch at 3800 N Lamar Blvd, taking over the former home of Wu Chow, says a roundup by the Austin American-Statesman.
“We’re shooting for the summer,” Local Foods Founder and President Martin Berson told What Now on Friday. “We’ll be doing the same sort of offerings we do now, with our Lunch menu, our All Day menu, and our Brunch menu on weekends. We’ll also have a small patio for people to have espresso, matcha drinks, and pastries.”
The brand has garnered a serious following with an approach to always fresh-food that it describes as “fanatical.” The dinner menu at the Austin location currently features Entrees & Bowls like the Bam Bam Salmon (Pan seared Faroe Island salmon, sweet chile glaze, Gundermann beet puree, herbed spaghetti squash, Lone Star + Mill King dill crème fraiche) and the French Bistro Mushroom Bowl. There are also sandwiches like the “Crunchy” Chicken, a Banh Mi sandwich, and the Avocado BLT.
“Everything we do is done with attention to sourcing, recipe ideation, and seasonality around ingredients,” Berson says. “We’re excited about all of it, and we’re proud of all of it.”
For Berson, there’s as also an aspect of homecoming. “It’s my neighborhood. I’m at Central Market across the street every day.”
And this fits quite well with the brand’s overall local-facing approach.
“Local Foods is a place for people who care about food, who look for amazing service. Whether you’re out for date night, a business lunch, or dinner with the kids on Tuesday night, it’s the kind of place where people always feel welcome.”
