Get ready for the heat Arizona — Angry Chickz is preparing to become your spiciest friend.

The Los Angeles-based fast-casual restaurant that specializes in Nashville hot chicken is planning to open several locations throughout the great Phoenix area in the coming months and into the next year.

What Now Phoenix previously reported that Angry Chickz would open a restaurant at 2015 S. Alma School Road in Mesa. That location is set to open April 17, according to founder David Mkhitaryan.

In a call with What Now, Mkhitaryan also shared that several other locations are in the works. In Goodyear, Angry Chickz will open at 883 S. Cotton Lane in March. Restaurants are also in the works for Chandler, Avondale, and possibly Surprise further down the road in late 2026 or 2027.

Mkhitaryan says that, although he still lives in Southern California where Angry Chickz was born, he has a fondness for Arizona. “I personally love it here.” Apparently the feelings are mutual, with Arizonans falling for Angry Chickz’s hot chicken that ranges in heat from no-heat “country” to a spice level so extreme it entails signing a waiver. According to Mkhitaryan, the “angry” heat level is really no joke. “It’s a mix of the hottest peppers in existence — Carolina reaper, ghost peppers, and other ingredients. It’s extremely hot, which is why we chose to ask people to sign a waiver before serving it to anyone.” Mkhitaryan says the Angry is mostly ordered by competitive eaters and friends who want to challenge each other.

If you’re looking for a little spice in your life without feeling the burn, Mkhitaryan suggests starting out with the “medium” first, then making your way to “hot”. “Our “hot” is actually hot. Some of those peppers really creep up on you. in 15 to 30 seconds, you really feel like your soul is warming up.”
