A century-old dessert brand is officially making its Greater Boston debut.
MilkShake Factory, a Pennsylvania-based dessert franchise, is opening its first local location in the Walpole Mall at 108 Providence Highway, Suite P08, according to the brand’s Google Business listing and Facebook page.
Founded in Pittsburgh in 1914, MilkShake Factory began as a neighborhood soda fountain and chocolate shop before evolving into a nationally recognized dessert destination. More than a century after its debut, the brand remains family-owned and chocolate-centered, now operating over 40 locations in 17 states through a growing franchise program.
The shop is known for its namesake, ultra-creamy milkshakes, made fresh daily using the Edwards family’s exclusive ice cream recipe. Guests can expect a variety of indulgent flavors, including Chocolate Dipped Strawberry, Campfire S’mores, and other rotating favorites, as well as handcrafted sundaes, molten chocolate cups, and housemade chocolate confections that nod to the brand’s chocolatier heritage.
The Walpole location is being brought to life by Taragh Mulvany, a local resident and first-time franchisee. MilkShake Factory is currently planning to open a total of six locations in the Greater Boston area, though no additional leases beyond Walpole have been finalized.
A representative for MilkShake Factory told What Now Boston that the Walpole shop will span approximately 1,550 square feet, with a tentative grand opening planned for mid-March 2026. “MilkShake Factory is more than just a dessert shop,” the representative said. “It is a brand built on over a century of family tradition and chocolate-making expertise.”
