A Tacoma coffee roaster is brewing big plans for a spring expansion.
Outer Dark Coffee Co., owned by Michael Murphy, plans to open a dedicated production roastery on Court C, according to a Facebook post.
“We’re beyond excited to finally have our own dedicated roasting space, AND to have the opportunity to set up shop in the heart of Downtown Tacoma,” the post read.

In addition to the new roastery, The News Tribune reported a second downtown cafe may also be in the works.
Outer Dark Coffee Co. debuted its flagship cafe in July 2024 at 750 Market St.
“We believe coffee is for everyone, and though we get obsessive about origins, roast profiles, and brewing methods, we also fully embrace the utilitarian nature of coffee. And while we put a lot of thought and energy into creating our unique version of the best possible cup, we mostly think coffee makes existing on this floating space rock a lot more enjoyable,” the website reads.
The cafe offers two distinct blends: natural/honey process coffee and washed coffee.
The natural/honey process lineup includes “Guji,” with notes of blueberry compote, yuzu, bittersweet chocolate and cherry; “El Puente Natural,” featuring strawberries and cream, fig and spice; and “Nariño,” offering raisin, black cherry, raw honey and whipped caramel.
The washed selection features “Senior Abraham Morales,” with notes of orange chocolate, pinot noir, tamarind candy and caramel; “Pink Bourbon Anaerobic,” offering pineapple, coconut cream, watermelon and hibiscus; and “The Feel,” with flavors of milk chocolate, brown sugar and red apple.
The company has not announced an opening date. Follow Outer Dark Coffee Co. on Instagram and Facebook, or visit its website for updates.
