Frank & Lupe’s Old Mexico, the longstanding restaurant that served classic dishes since 1995, sadly closed its doors last year. Now, the restaurant will reopen at a new Scottsdale address.

The restaurant, under the care of owner Piero Aviles, will reopen this spring at Gainey Ranch, at 8787 N. Scottsdale Road.

The original Frank & Lupe’s opened in New Mexico in 1980. In 1995, the eponymous owners, Frank & Lupe Bernal, opened their Old Town Scottsdale restaurant in 1995. The family affair, run by sons Teddy and Eddie,  expanded with an additional location in 2017. In 2020, tragedy struck the Bernal family, with both Teddy and Eddie dying months apart. The second location also closed that year, and Piero Aviles took over the Old Town Scottsdale restaurant.

When Frank & Lupe’s closed in 2025, Phoenix New Times reported that the restaurant had plans to reopen. Now that promise is being fulfilled.

The new location will have a more modern feel in decor, but at its heart, the restaurant plans on offering the favorite dishes loved for three decades. In a statement, Aviles confirmed that the food and soul will remain the same. “Frank & Lupe’s has always been about heart, hospitality and honest food. We’re not changing what works. Lupe’s recipes, her traditions, and her standards are still at the center of everything we do.”
