French Connection Announces Shutdown, WARN Notice Posted
French Connection has been part of the fast fashion industry for over five decades. The brand is preparing to permanently close its Jamaica Avenue facility in Queens.
Located at 184-60 Jamaica Avenue in Hollis, New York, the facility closure will affect 29 employees. The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice on February 26.
The company has not released additional details or the official reason behind the closure. It has also not shared any information related to the impacted roles.
What Is a WARN Notice?
Established in 1988, the WARN Act is a federal law. The law instructs employers with 100 or more employees to provide at least 60 days’ advance notice before a plant closing or mass layoff.
The WARN notice is filed with state labor officials and alerts employees and local governments about upcoming job losses. The notice helps employees by giving them time to prepare and seek new employment.
The February 26 filing notified the state and employees that the Jamaica Avenue facility will shut down in mid-March.
Industry Shift and Company Background
Founded in 1972, French Connection built strong recognition in the United States during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The brand is known for its minimalist style and bold marketing campaigns. It offers high-fashion contemporary clothing for men and women, accessories, and bags.
As the fashion industry continues to face ongoing challenges and shifts in shopping habits, French Connection is also feeling the impact. In recent years, the rise of e-commerce and third-party retail platforms has reduced the need for company-operated physical stores.
Despite the Jamaica Avenue facility closure, French Connection continues to position itself for growth. It has recently announced a long-term North American licensing agreement with G-III Apparel Group. The partnership, effective February 1, 2026, covers the development and distribution of men’s and women’s apparel and select accessories.
As the Queens facility prepares to close, French Connection reflects broader changes across the apparel industry.
