Following a successful rebrand earlier this year, a popular Alexandria dining institution is preparing a new chapter for its second story. After transitioning from Del Ray Pizzeria into Del Ray Public House, the team behind that venerable establishment is planning to bring a concept called Cubbies to its upstairs bar space, reports local media outlet ALXNow.
Cubbies is not the first concept Del Ray Public House has tried out in its second story 2218 Mount Vernon Avenue storefront. Owner Laurel Fisher is partnering with a Chicago native who believes people would drive across town for an authentic spot.
Cubbies will appeal pretty strongly to local carnivores. The eatery will focus heavily on Chicago style Italian beef and hot dogs. Ownership feels Cubbies and Del Ray Public House will pair beautifully, saying: “We believe Cubbies will make a great neighbor to DRP because it is part of our vision to bring authentic flavors from our hometowns to the avenue.”
A precise opening date is not presently available, however Fisher kindly informed What Now DC that Cubbies will likely be customer-ready by late May.
Cubbies debut is part of the recent overall rebranding and refocusing of Del Ray Public House which began in January of this year. Speaking of this next evolution of the neighborhood favorite, Fisher states: “I felt like there were things that were really missing in the neighborhood. We really need a place where everyone can feel at home and get a hearty meal, and I’m bringing in new flavors that are high quality but with a reasonable price.”
