A new European-style café is in the works in Boston’s South End, and a familiar duo is behind it.
Local restaurateurs Arnaud Abdoun (PRB Boulangerie, Petit Robert Bistro, Batifol) and Loic Le Garrec (PRB Boulangerie, Café Saint-Germain, Petit Robert Bistro) are gearing up to open Kawa in the former FoMu space at 655 Tremont St, according to Boston Restaurant Talk.
The announcement came via Instagram, where the pair finally pulled back the curtain on the project. “After months of secretly dreaming (and planning behind the scenes), we’re finally ready to reveal our secrets,” they shared. “A European-inspired coffee shop is coming to Boston and it’ll be so much more than just a coffee shop. ☕️”
While menu details remain under wraps, social media suggests that the café will focus on quality coffee, local ingredients, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The team emphasized the care behind the concept, adding, “From construction dust to late-night espresso testing, from the search for the perfect beans to the meticulous design of every detail… we’re creating this space with passion, warmth, and a European flair.”
Abdoun and Le Garrec have also offered a rare look behind the scenes, sharing video updates that document the process from early concept through construction, including design decisions, permitting, and budgeting.
An official opening timeline has not yet been announced, but What Now Boston has reached out to the Kawa team for additional details and will share updates as they become available.
