Wonder, the rapidly expanding virtual food hall concept known for bringing multiple restaurant brands under one roof, is exploring another Greater Boston location.
The New York City-based company recently filed an application for a site in Wellesley Square, according to The Swellesley Report. Plans filed for the upcoming location call for an 18-seat dining area, though Wonder’s primary focus remains on takeout and delivery.
A Wonder representative confirmed the plans with What Now Boston but cautioned that the project is still in its early stages and that an exact address has not yet been finalized.
Founded by serial entrepreneur Marc Lore, Wonder has built its business around a delivery-first model that uses robotics and proprietary technology to streamline food preparation. Rather than operating as a traditional restaurant, each location functions as a modern food hall, preparing meals from a wide range of virtual restaurant brands in a single kitchen.
The concept brings together menus from celebrity chefs and well-known restaurants spanning everything from burgers and barbecue to Mediterranean cuisine and sushi. Current partners include Bobby Flay Steak, Streetbird by Marcus Samuelsson, Yasas by Michael Symon, and several local favorites, including Wellesley restaurants Jin’s Fine Asian Cuisine, Singh’s Cafe, and CK Shanghai.
Wonder’s growth has accelerated rapidly in recent years. The company now operates more than 100 locations, with dozens more in development, and recently secured $650 million in venture funding at a $9 billion pre-money valuation.
Massachusetts has become one of Wonder’s fastest-growing markets, with 15 locations currently operating across the state, including sites in Natick, Newton, Brookline, and Framingham.
The brand is continuing its broader expansion throughout Greater Boston, MetroWest, and New Hampshire, with additional openings planned in communities including Millbury, Tyngsborough, Springfield, Worcester, and Salem, New Hampshire.
On July 9, Wonder celebrated the grand opening of its flagship Kendall Square location in Cambridge, marking another milestone in its regional expansion. As part of the event, Wonder partnered with New England Patriots’ Kayshon Boutte, The Greater Boston Food Bank, Margaret Fuller Neighborhood House, and Community Art Center to pack 400 meals for local families.
The forthcoming Wellesley location is expected to open sometime in 2027. Additional details—including the final address and a more specific opening timeline—are expected as plans progress. Stay tuned for updates.
