A new grocery store under construction in Philadelphia is nearing completion.
The 50,000-square-foot GIANT supermarket is taking shape as a redevelopment of a vacant portion of the Andorra Shopping Center at 701 Cathedral Rd., next to LA Fitness. The shopping center is also home to several other retailers, including Kohl’s, T.J. Maxx, Five Below, Dollar Tree and Chipotle.
The president of The GIANT Company said the team is “honored” to be the grocery choice for so many customers in Philadelphia.
“We can’t wait to become a part of the Andorra community and welcome our new neighbors to their brand-new GIANT, where they’ll find the latest amenities and services coupled with great value, the best quality, and friendly team members,” John Ruane said in a statement.
The first GIANT opened in Philadelphia in 2011, and the company now operates nine stores across the city, employing more than 1,000 team members. The grocer also has locations in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
An official opening date has not yet been announced, but the goal is to welcome shoppers this spring.
