Another fashion retailer is setting up shop in Newton.
J.Crew Factory is preparing to open a new location in the Newton Nexus shopping center, next to Trader Joe’s and TJ Maxx at 165 Needham St. News of the upcoming store first surfaced in the Newton Real Estate Forum Facebook group, and the company also appears to be actively hiring a store director for the new outpost.
Founded in 1988, J.Crew Factory serves as the outlet counterpart to J.Crew, offering the brand’s signature polished, preppy aesthetic at more accessible price points.
While the stores maintain a similar look and feel to traditional J.Crew locations, Factory shops typically carry separate merchandise collections designed specifically for the outlet chain, often featuring more simplified designs and lower-cost materials. Frequent promotions and near-constant sales have also become part of the shopping experience.
Alongside J.Crew and J.Crew Factory, the J.Crew Group also includes Madewell, a premium casual label launched in 2006. The brand is known for its high-quality denim, leather accessories, and other casual clothing staples.
According to the company’s website, J.Crew Factory currently operates nearly 400 locations nationwide, including 16 shops across Massachusetts. Existing Greater Boston locations can be found in communities such as Somerville, Watertown, Braintree, Hingham, Burlington, and Peabody.
In addition to Trader Joe’s and TJ Maxx, Newton Nexus is home to a variety of tenants such as Boston Ballet School, Qdoba Mexican Eats, Citizens Bank, and Boston Ski + Tennis.
A representative for J.Crew confirmed the project with What Now Boston, noting that additional details will be released as the company updates its press materials. Stay tuned for updates as J.Crew Factory prepares to join Newton’s growing retail lineup.
