A pair of upcoming pop-up events will introduce Heartbutter to Charlotte this summer, as founder and owner Dre Thomas continues to explore the long-term potential of a future brick-and-mortar concept.
Thomas confirmed the plans in a recent interview with WhatNow Charlotte.
The first event is scheduled for June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at CHNO Coffee, located at 4612 Gilead Street, in the Lower South End, according to previous reporting from Axios Charlotte. A second pop-up is also planned for July at Lottie’s in Uptown Charlotte.
Heartbutter focuses on non-alcoholic cocktails and community-centered experiences, with Thomas describing the concept as an alternative social environment where alcohol is not the centerpiece. “We really want to create a space where people can gather and connect without alcohol being the focus,” Thomas said.
Thomas, who relocated to Charlotte last year, said the upcoming events are intended to help introduce the concept locally while allowing the team to better understand what resonates with guests. “I definitely want Heartbutter to eventually have a brick-and-mortar, eyeing a potential Fall 2027 opening,” Thomas said. “But right now, we’re really focused on building community first.”
The beverage program is being developed alongside Charlotte mixologist Donnell Owens and will feature non-alcoholic spirits from brands such as Lyre’s and Ritual Zero Proof, according to Axios Charlotte.
Guests attending the events will also be invited to vote on drinks and provide feedback, helping shape the concept as it continues to evolve. “For me, it’s about creating intentional experiences,” Thomas said. “People still want to go out, socialize, and have a great time, even if alcohol isn’t part of that.”
While no timeline has been announced for a permanent location, Thomas said the long-term vision for Heartbutter includes eventually opening a dedicated space in Charlotte.
