A restaurant and bar known for its extensive collection of board games is opening a second location in Philadelphia’s Fairmount neighborhood.
Queen & Rook Game Cafe, owned by Edward Garcia and his wife, Jeannie Wong, will debut at 1642 Fairmount Ave.
“It’s almost seven years since we opened Queen & Rook with the idea that people wanted fun with friends where the laughter could be louder than the music,” Garcia said in a video shared on Instagram. “This space has been amazing and we have the opportunity to bring gaming to a neighborhood where it was for a while and we’re super excited to bring the community with us.”
The new location will feature a “fantasy future” theme with retro flair, differing from the medieval castle-inspired vibe at the South Street location.
Queen & Rook will continue to offer more than 1,000 board games, inventive cocktails and a food menu including margarita pizza, nachos, wings, kimchi burgers and hand-cut fries.
Board games cost $7 per person for a 2.5-hour reservation, allowing guests to play unlimited games and receive help from “expert Gamekeepers.” Arcade games cost $15 for adults and $10 for children under 13 for the first hour.
The space will also be available for private events, parties and corporate gatherings.
“We’re super excited for this vision of not the past but the future–sustainable, fun, friendly community,” Garcia said.
An official opening date has not yet been announced, but the Instagram post indicated it will open “later this year.”
