A Philadelphia Mexican eatery is making a comeback.

After announcing its Kensington closure last November, Cantina La Martina is now officially partnering with Human Robot Brewery as its permanent food vendor. The eatery will open inside brewery locations: 1710 N. Fifth St. in Kensington and 2711 W. Girard Ave. in Brewerytown.

Owner Chef Dionicio Jimenez and his wife, Mariangeli Alicea Saez, shared in an Instagram post, “We didn’t want to return in a way that didn’t feel genuine. We wanted to wait until we found the right fit one that felt true to Cantina and to the community where our story began.”

At the Fifth St. location, Cantina La Martina will serve tacos, nachos, burritos and wings, while the Girard Ave. location will offer its signature burritos and burrito bowls, with “more surprises” planned for the future.

During the closure, guests could still enjoy Cantina favorites at Cantina on the Go inside Human Robot in Jenkintown, the takeout location on Cottman Avenue, and La Baja in Ambler, another Chef Jimenez restaurant blending Mexican, Asian and Mediterranean flavors.

“Our collaboration there [in Jenkintown] has been an incredible success, and we remain deeply grateful to the entire Human Robot team for their partnership, friendship, and continued support,” the post continued.

The team plans to open both locations Sunday, Sept. 13, just in time for Mexican Independence Day.

“Thank you for sticking with us and believing in Cantina. We promised this wasn’t the end. Now, we can’t wait to welcome you back to Cantina La Martina in Kensington and introduce you to our new home in Brewerytown!” the post concluded.
