San Francisco specialty-coffee favorite The Coffee Movement is preparing to expand its presence in Chinatown with a new café and an immersive coffee-tasting experience. The new café is slated to open this fall at 1200 Mason Street, steps from the company’s flagship location at 1030 Washington Street, according to The San Francisco Standard.
The new location will present a four-seat slow bar led by co-owner Reef Bessette. The intimate experience will feature an expanded pour-over menu, coffee cocktails, competition-inspired beverages, and a multi-course coffee tasting menu designed to showcase specialty coffee at the highest level.
The new café will also introduce an expanded food program, including pastries from Juniper and potential collaborations with Breadbelly. Keiji Ashizawa, the designer behind The Coffee Movement’s Balboa Street café, is designing the new location’s interior, bringing a warm, dark-wood aesthetic complemented by custom-built furnishings.
Founded as a mobile coffee concept before establishing its first brick-and-mortar café in Chinatown, The Coffee Movement has built a reputation for high-quality coffee, thoughtful sourcing, and innovative beverage programs. The company currently operates locations in Chinatown and the Inner Richmond neighborhood.
While the Mason Street café focuses on seated experiences and specialty offerings, the original Chinatown shop will remain open as a streamlined destination for grab-and-go coffee, continuing to serve locals and visitors seeking the brand’s signature drinks.
